Substitutions

Don't you just hate it when you are cooking, and then you realize that you do not have one of the ingredients? Chances are that you do not need to run out to the store. Chances are that you have a great substitutionin your food storage.

Try substituting this:
With this:

1 TBS arrowroot
2 TBS flour
1 TBS cornstarch
1 TBS bean flour
1 TBS potato flakes

1 TBS of butter
3 TBS milled flax seed
2 1/2 tsp shortening or oil
1 TBS applesauce, yogurt, or pureed banana
1 TBS cooked whole beans

1 TBS of OIL
1 TBS pureed fruit with a little of skim milk added
1 TBS pureed beans

1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cream of tarter plus 1/2 tsp baking soda

bread crumbs
cracker crumbs or cornflake crumbs

1 cup buttermilk
1 TBS of vinegar plus enough milk to make 1 cup, let stand at least 5 minutes.
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup of sour cream plus 1/2 cup of milk

condensed milk
1/2 cup hot water, 1 cup sugar, 1cup powdered milk

corn starch (for thickening)
flour (use twice as much), bean flour, potato flakes

1 cup Corn Syrup
1 cup sugar plus 1/4 cup water

1 tsp dried herb
1/2 tsp ground herb

1 egg
1 TBS milled flax seed plus 3TBS water
1/4 mashed fuit or vegetables plus 2 tsp oil

evaporated milk
1 cup water plus 2/3 cup powdered milk

1 TBS fresh herb
1/2 tsp dried herb

1 clove of garlic
1/8 tsp garlic powder

1 cup half and half
1 1/2 TBS melted butter plu enough milk to make 1 cup

1 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup of melted butter with 3/4 cup of milk

1 TBS honey
1 1/4 TBS sugar plus 1/4 TBS water

1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp vinegar

Molasses
honey

1 small onion (1/3 cup)
1 tsp onion powder
1 TBS dried minced onion

1 cup sour cream
1 cup plalin yogurt
1 cup evaporated milk plus 1 TBS vinegar

1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup tomato paste plus 2/3 cup water

1 cup whole milk
1 cup water plus 1/3 cup powdered milk
